ABOUT THE PROJECT
Growing concern about the health of soil and land degradation prompted calls for action at national and international level. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development emphasises that halting the soil and land degradation is not only important for achieving the dedicated SDG 15 but also for many other SDGs. Given the commitment of the European Union to the 2030 Agenda, a better understanding of the state of play in the EU regarding the implementation of soil and land-related SDGs is crucial.
Against this background, the Directorate-General for Environment commissioned a study to gain an in-depth understanding of the progress of the implementation of land and soil-related SDGs in the EU.
The project aims to:
Analyse the state of play of the implementation of land and soil-related SDGs in the EU;
Organise a conference which would allow different stakeholders to exchange views and practices;
Compile and communicate good practices and provide recommendations for the implementation of land and soil-related SDGs in the EU.
The conference and the findings of the study will support the European Commission in identifying opportunities for action at EU level to facilitate and promote the implementation of soil and land-related SDGs.
